American Gold Eagle coins are among the most popular in the world due to their purity and weight. Adding to the demand for these coins is the inherent value of the United States government’s verification and authentication of the weight and purity in each of these remarkable coins. Now, the 1994-W 1 oz Proof American Gold Eagle Coin is available for purchase through JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
The Proof American Gold Eagle was first introduced in 1986 alongside the bullion version of the popular coin series. Each year, the United States Mint produces these coins in a total of four different weights; 1 oz, ½ oz, ¼ oz, and 1/10 oz. By law, all the coins in the American Gold Eagle series must contain only gold sourced from within the US.
On the obverse side of every coin in the series is the image of Lady Liberty as she strides over Washington DC. Designed in 1908 by Augustus Saint-Gaudens, the depiction of Lady Liberty features her outstretched right hand holding a torch, and an olive branch in her left.
Sculptor Miley Busiek was asked to create the reverse image specifically for this coin program in 1985. Her image features a male bald eagle returning to its nest with an olive branch. In the nest, a group of hatchlings is vigilantly watched over by a female bald eagle. Engravings that accompany this image include the weight, purity, metal content, and face value of the coin.
The United States Mint uses special coining presses at its West Point Mint facility to produce American Gold Eagles, but only the proof coins bear a mint mark to prove their origin.
