The 1/4 oz Proof Gold Eagles were introduced in 1988, the same time as the 1/10 oz Proof Gold Eagle. Each 1994-W 1/4 oz Proof American Gold Eagle Coin available here comes in a protective capsule. The coin is packaged in a presentation box with a Certificate of Authenticity. The mintage in 1994 was an increase over the last two years, but down from the initial issues in the late 1980s.
American Gold Eagles are available from the United States Mint in BU, Proof, and Burnished coins. The series started in 1986 with four BU weights. The Proof Eagles were introduced in 1986 and expanded between 1987 and 1988. Burnished Eagles debuted in 2006 and feature only a 1 oz gold coin as of 2011.
In the obverse of the 1994-W Proof American Gold Eagle, you will find the iconic "Lady Liberty" design by Augustus Saint-Gaudens, which was originally created for the $20 Double Eagle coin in 1907. In this design, Lady Liberty is shown striding forward with a torch in one hand and an olive branch in the other, with the sun's rays emanating behind her.
For the reverse of 1994-W 1/4 oz Proof Gold Eagle Coins, a family of nesting bald eagles is depicted, with the male eagle flying overhead, clutching an olive branch in his talons.
