The Chinese Mint introduced the Gold Panda Series in 1982, bringing with it the innovative idea of annually changing designs on a bullion coin. Since its debut, the series has featured a new depiction of the Giant Panda almost every year, with the lone exception occurring in 2002. Today, 1994 1 oz Chinese Gold Panda Coins are available with Small Dates from JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
A panda’s fur itself consists of thick, wooly hairs that provide excellent insulation against the cool, damp conditions of their bamboo forest homes. Each hair contains a hollow core that offers additional insulating properties, similar to polar bear fur. Interestingly, a panda’s skin underneath its fur is actually black in the areas where the fur is black, and pink where the fur is white. This remarkable pattern is established early in development and remains consistent throughout the panda’s life.
All 1994 1 oz Chinese Gold Panda Coins are individually housed in a sealed plastic pouch. These coins are known as Small Date specimens within the Gold Panda Series, indicating the coins have more compact, smaller numerals for the date mark engraving.
The obverse of the 1994 Chinese Gold Panda presents the Hall of Prayer for Abundant Harvests. This architectural feature is the focal point of the Temple of Heaven Complex in Beijing, with the image showcasing the sweeping stairway that leads up to the temple’s grand entrance.
The reverse design of the 1994 1 oz Gold Panda Coin features the Giant Panda sitting as it plays with some bamboo shoots with its paws. The panda is shown sitting next to a small body of water as it plays with the bamboo.
