American Gold Eagle coins were unveiled by the United States Mint in 1986. At the time, the coins were only available in bullion and proof versions. In 1988, the Mint added fractional weight coins to the proof program, with each one featuring stunning finishes that attracted the attention of coin collectors. Today, you have the opportunity to purchase a 1993-P ½ oz Proof American Gold Eagle coin from JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
Proof American Gold Eagles were first struck in 1986, but only a 1 oz coin was available. The proof program expanded in 1988 to include the fractional weights, which include ¼ oz and 1/10 oz in addition to these ½ oz coins. The coins in this product listing are unique as they are the last Proof American Gold Eagle ½ oz coins struck at the Philadelphia Mint. Starting in 1994 and continuing today, the ½ oz proofs are struck at the West Point Mint.
Each of the coins in this JM Bullion product listing has a perfect grade of PF70. Coins with this grade feature full, original luster, and no blemishes visible on the surface of the coin. A coin with an Ultra-cameo finish is characterized by a strong, frosted finish on the design set and a deeply-mirrored, clear background field.
A modern interpretation of Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ Lady Liberty is featured on the obverse of all Proof American Gold Eagles. His image of Liberty was created in 1907 for use on the $20 Gold Double Eagle, but didn’t appear on the coin until several months after his death.
The reverse features sculptor Miley Busiek’s depiction of a family of nesting bald eagles. Engravings on this side include the face value, weight, metal content, and purity of the coin.
