Each of the 1993 1/10 oz Proof American Gold Eagle Coins available here has been certified a PF70 coin by the NGC. This is a perfect certification level and means the coins exhibit full, original mint luster with no detracting flaws visible anywhere on the coin’s surface area or design elements.
The ultra-cameo label, known simply as UCAM, refers to coins with a beautiful finish. These coins have strong, frosted matte design sets and deeply-mirrored, clear background fields. The combined visual elements provide a visual illusion of the design floating above the coin’s surface area.
1993 was the last year which the fractional-weight proof coins were struck by the Philadelphia Mint. From 1987/1988 until 1993, the fractional coins were issued by Philadelphia. Starting in 1994, all four coins would be struck by the West Point Mint as the 1 oz gold coin has always been.
Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ iconic image of Liberty is featured on the obverse of 1993 1/10 oz Proof American Gold Eagle coins. Her figure is free and moving toward the viewer holding her torch high up in her right hand while clutching a large olive branch in her left. Liberty’s gown and hair flow in the breeze as she walks and her figure is surrounded by 50 stars in a circle.
The reverse of the Proof American Gold Eagle Coin features its own, unique design not found on other American coinage. Miley Busiek’s family of bald eagles was created in 1986 for the Gold Eagle. It is featured along with engravings of the coin’s nation of issue, the national motto, and the coin’s weight, purity, metal content, and face value.
