Austrian Gold Philharmonic coins were introduced by the Austrian Mint in 1989 with 1 oz gold coins and 1/4 oz gold coins available. It took just two years for the mint to expand the program, introducing a 1/10 oz gold coin in 1991. Subsequent issues included the introduction of a 1/2 oz gold coin in 1994 and a 1/25 oz gold coin in 2014.
In the obverse design of the 1993 Austrian Gold Philharmonic Coin, the mint features an image of the Great Pipe Organ. This design offers a vision of the pipe organ that is permanently installed within the Musikverein, the concert hall in Vienna where the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra performs.
For the reverse face of 1993 1 oz Gold Philharmonic Coins, you will find a depiction of musical instruments. Honoring the members of the Philharmonic Orchestra, this design shows a cello, violins, a harp, a bassoon, and a horn. Thomas Pesendorfer, Chief Engraver of the Austrian Mint, created these designs for the Austrian Mint in 1989.
