From 1992 to 1998, the American Silver Eagle coin program saw its lowest mintage figures in the program’s history. Many of these years saw figures below the relative lows of the 1980s when the coin debuted, and well below its 21st-century mintage figures. 1993 was a pleasant one-year bump during this period.
After falling by more than 1.5 million coins from 1991 to 1992, the 1993 Silver Eagle saw a jump in demand of just over 1.2 million coins to finish with a total of 6,763,762. At the same time, the price of silver per ounce experienced a significant jump in 1993. The average price of silver had fallen in each of the four previous years, finishing 1992 with an average of $3.65 per ounce. Silver would surge in 1993, though, to an average of $4.31 per ounce. The high point of the year saw silver trade at $4.57 per ounce.
The obverse of 1993 American Silver Eagle coins features the design known as Walking Liberty. Originally created in 1916 by Adolph A. Weinman, this image featured on the half-dollar circulation coin from 1916 to 1947.
On the reverse side of 1993 1 oz American Silver Eagle coins, you’ll find the heraldic eagle of the United States. This design first appeared on American coins in 1794 and was originally created by the first Chief Engraver of the United States Mint, Robert Scot. This particular design is the most recent rendition and was modernized by John Mercanti in 1986.
1993 1 oz American Silver Eagle Coins available to you here today come in near-perfect condition. The PCGS assigns Mint State 69 grades to coins with full, original mint luster and no more than two minor detracting flaws. Those flaws are limited to minuscule contact marks or hairlines only.
