Produced during one of the rare production lulls in the American Gold Eagle program, coins from 1992 are often hard to come by due to the low mintage numbers. Available in bullion and proof coins at this time, the 1992 Proof American Gold Eagle is a favorite among both investors and collectors. Today, the 1992-W 1 oz Proof American Gold Eagle is available through JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
The American Gold Eagle coin program has experienced various ups and downs in terms of mintage over its nearly 30-year production run. When the coins were introduced in 1986, demand was high for several years. Through the early 1990s, demand sunk until the Y2K craze struck late in the decade. Recently, demand swelled again during the Great Recession.
On the obverse side of every coin in the series is the image of Lady Liberty, as designed by Augustus Saint-Gaudens in 1908. He was tasked by President Theodore Roosevelt with creating a new design for American gold coins that would breathe new life into American coining. His stunning depiction of Lady Liberty did not appear on a US coin until several months after his death.
The reverse side of each coin features a design exclusive to this coin series. Miley Busiek designed an image of a family of nesting bald eagles in 1985, specifically for use on the American Gold Eagle.
Each coin available to you today through this listing has a perfect grade of PR70 from the PCGS. These coins have brilliant luster and no blemishes or detracting marks of any kind. The deep-cameo designation identifies a coin with a strong, frosted design overlaying a deeply-mirrored, clear background field.
