The Austrian Mint introduced the Gold Philharmonic in 1989. The coins debuted at a time when the global market for gold bullion coins was rather limited in terms of variety. With the release of the 1 oz and 1/4 oz gold coins in this series, the program joined fives others around the world.
These other five options included the oldest coin in the market, the South African Gold Krugerrand. It also included the Canadian Gold Maple Leaf, Chinese Gold Panda, American Gold Eagle, and the British Gold Britannia.
On the obverse of the 1992 1 oz Gold Philharmonic Coin, you will find a depiction of the Great Pipe Organ. This fixed musical instrument has been a part of the Musikverein for more than a century and a half, though the current iteration of the pipe organ is the third ever used in the building.
The reverse side of 1992 Austrian Gold Philharmonic Coins comes with an image of musical instruments. In honor of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, the coins feature a collection of instruments like the cello, violins, and even a French horn. The designs on the Austrian Gold Philharmonic Coins come from Thomas Pesendorfer, the Chief Engraver of the Austrian Mint.
These 1992 1 oz Austrian Gold Philharmonic Coins are available to you with protective plastic flips. These coins come from just the fourth release of the Gold Philharmonic and experienced the highest demand of any coin to date at 537,000 coins.
