American Gold Eagle bullion coin mintage figures shrank steadily in the years from 1986 when it was introduced until 1992. The one coin to see steady decreases in minting figures was the 1 oz coin, as the fractional weight coins saw both increases and decreases in the first seven years.
The 1992 1 oz American Gold Eagle Coin saw a slight increase in mintage from roughly 240,000 the year prior to 275,000 for 1992. While this increase was extremely small, it at least marked the end of five consecutive years of falling mintage figures for the 1 oz bullion coin in the series.
All 1992 1 oz American Gold Eagle Coins in this product listing from JM Bullion are in BU condition. Coins in this condition show no signs of wear and tear on the surfaces, though you may notice minor flaws including breaks in the luster, spotted surfaces, or contact marks from the striking process at the mint.
On the obverse of the 1992 1 oz American Gold Eagle coin you’ll find the image of Liberty created in 1907 by Augustus Saint-Gaudens. His creation was on the $20 Gold Double Eagle from 1907 to 1933, and is considered the most beautiful coin design in the history of American circulation coinage.
The reverse of the American Gold Eagle has a design found only on the coins in this program. Developed by Miley Busiek specifically for the Gold Eagle, this design features a male bald eagle flying over the nest where a group of hatchlings eats under the watchful eye of a female bald eagle.
