The Australian Kookaburra is the Perth Mint’s most popular and longest-running silver bullion program. Introduced in 1990, it set the stage for several silver and gold bullion collections to follow, and provided a blueprint to success with its use of new reverse depictions of native wildlife. Right now, 1992 1 Kilo Australian Silver Kookaburra Coins are available online from JM Bullion.

Kookaburras are known for their distinctive call that sounds like human laughter. This call serves several purposes, including marking territory and communicating with other members of their group. Kookaburras are quite social and often live in family groups or small flocks. These groups help them defend territory, locate food, and provide protection against predators.
The obverse of the 1992 Australian Kookaburra Coin features a portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. England’s longest-reigning monarch is captured here in right-profile relief in the third-generation effigy created by Raphael Maklouf. This 1985 design is widely considered a timeless view of the monarch as she wears the George IV State Diadem.
On the reverse side of 1992 1 Kilo Silver Kookaburra Coins, you’ll find a depiction of the kookaburra. This year’s design comes from Dr. Stuart Devlin and features the kookaburra in right-profile relief. The bird is perched on the stump of a tree with native vegetation surrounding the bird within the design element.
