Proof Gold American Eagle coins have been struck since 1986 in 1 oz, ½ oz, ¼ oz, and 1/10 oz weights. Each coin in the series has a face value that is consistent with its weight, with the exception of the ¼ oz coins. The gold content and weight of these coins is certified by the United States government.
On the reverse side of each coin is sculptor Miley Busiek’s image of a male bald eagle returning to its nest with an olive branch. In the nest, a group of hatchlings are being vigilantly guarded by a female bald eagle.
The obverse side of all American Gold Eagle coins is graced by Lady Liberty, as designed in 1908 by Augustus Saint-Gaudens. Tapped by President Theodore Roosevelt to reinvent gold coin designs for the United States Mint, Saint-Gaudens died from a long-term illness just months before his iconic design was ever struck on a coin.
Each of the coins available in this listing is in perfect condition, with its full, original luster and no blemishes of any kind. The ultra-cameo finish on the coin’s surface gives the strong, frosted design set the appearance of floating over the deeply-mirrored, clear background field.
All of these coins were struck by the coining press at the US Mint’s New York facility. If you have questions about Proof American Gold Eagles for a JM Bullion associate, you can reach us at 800-276-6508, chat with us online through our website’s hosted service, or send us an email.
