Of the 7.7 million coins that were struck in the 1991 American Silver Eagle Series, just over half a million were proof versions. This marked the lowest mintage of proofs in this series in the coin program's history at the time. Today, JM Bullion is offering you the chance to order the 1991-S 1 oz Proof American Silver Eagle.
Coin Highlights:
All 1991-S 1 oz Proof American Silver Eagles arrive in a PCGS protective plastic slab. These coins have a DCAM designation. DCAM proofs are deep-cameo visual keys, which indicate that the coins have strong, frosted matte design elements. These coins are also graded PR69 meaning their near-perfect condition and display their full, original mint luster with a maximum of two minor detracting flaws.
The obverse field of all 1991-S Proof American Silver Eagles features Adolph A. Weinman’s well-known Walking Liberty design. This striking image showcases Liberty donning an American flag, whilst clutching oaken branches, walking towards a sunset.
John Mercanti’s heraldic eagles is displayed on the reverse field of 1991-S 1 oz Proof Silver Eagles. This image, which was originally used by the United States Mint in 1794 was modernized by the former Chief Engraver to include the 13 five-point stars above the eagle’s head. Identifying marks of the coin surround the image.
The iconic Proof American Silver Eagle Series was initially struck at the San Francisco Mint. Production of these coins moved to Philadelphia starting with the 1993 version of this well-known coin program. 1991 saw a nearly 195,000 decrease in the mintage of proof coins from the year prior.
