American Gold Eagle coins were introduced by the United States Mint in 1986. The original coin program included bullion and proof versions, with four weights available in bullion and one weight available in proof. As of 1987, Proof American Gold Eagles had expanded to include ½ oz coins. Today, you can purchase a 1991-P ½ oz Proof American Gold Eagle from JM Bullion in perfect condition.
Coin Highlights:
There are many minting years in the American Gold Eagle program that are special for one reason or another. Those with an eye for detail will notice that the 1991 American Gold Eagle coin, both bullion and proof, is the last to feature Roman numerals to mark the year. Starting in 1992, the US Mint switched to Arabic numerals to mark the year of production.
On the obverse side of all American Gold Eagles, Lady Liberty is shown walking confidently into the future. Striding forward from the setting sun, a torch held aloft in her right hand provides a guiding light, as the olive branch in her left hand represents the nation’s desire for peace.
The reverse side of each coin bears the unique creation of sculptor Miley Busiek. Her depiction of a family of nesting bald eagles was created in 1986 and is only used on the American Gold Eagle coin series.
Each of the coins in this product listing has a perfect grade of PF70 from the NGC. Coins in this condition feature full, original luster, and no blemishes of any kind. Ultra-cameo coins have a design set that appears to float over the deeply-mirrored background field of the coin.
