In 1986, the United States Mint introduced the Proof American Gold Eagle Series as a collectible companion to the bullion American Gold Eagle Coins. While the bullion coins offered four weights immediately in 1986, the Proof Gold Eagle saw the four weights rolled out to collectors over the first three years of availability. Now, 1990-P 1/4 oz Proof American Gold Eagle Coins are available online from JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
In the obverse of 1990-P 1/4 oz Proof Gold Eagle Coins, you’ll find Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ iconic Lady Liberty design. Crafted for the $20 Double Eagle in 1907, this image shows Liberty’s full-length figure in front-facing relief with a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left. A ring of stars surrounds the field with sunrays in the background and the U.S. Capitol Building at her feet.
For the reverse of 1990-P Proof American Gold Eagles, the mint features a design from Miley Busiek. In this original design for the series, a bald eagle is shown inside the family nest with hatchlings as a male eagle soars overhead.
The United States Mint introduced the Proof Gold Eagles in stages. The 1 oz gold coin was the only weight offered in 1986, with the 1/2 oz gold coin introduced in 1987. The range was completed in 1988 with the debut of 1/4 oz and 1/10 oz gold coins. All three fractional coins have denominations proportional to their weight, with the exception of these 1/4 oz gold coins. The 1 oz gold coin has a $50 (USD) face value, with the 1/2 oz gold coin bearing a face value of $25 (USD) and the 1/10 gold coin a value of $5 (USD). The 1/4 oz gold coin has a $10 (USD) face value.
These 1990-P 1/4 oz Proof American Gold Eagle Coins are housed in protective plastic capsules. The coin is presented in a US Mint box with a themed outer shipper included. Each coin also comes with a Certificate of Authenticity and was struck by the Philadelphia Mint with a P mint mark.
