The Singapore Mint is the creator of the Lunar Coin Series, one of the hottest and most well-known gold coin collections. The 1988 coin honors the Lunar Year of the dragon! Today, JM Bullion offers you the 1988 1 oz Singapore Lunar Year of the Dragon Gold Coin (Proof-like)!
Coin Highlights:
The Singapore Mint first began production of its lunar coin series in 1984. The series ran through 1995. The Chinese Lunar Calendar runs in twelve-year cycles and names each of the twelve years after an animal. Legend has it that the Lord Buddha summoned all the animals to come to him before he departed from earth. Only twelve came to bid him farewell and as a reward, he named a year after each of them in the order they arrived. The Chinese believe the animal ruling the year in which a person is born has a profound influence on personality. They say, ‘This is the animal that hides in your heart.’
For the obverse field of the 1988 1 oz Singapore Lunar Year of the Dragon Gold Coin, you will find the Singapore coat of arms. Its motto translates to Onward Singapore. To its left, you’ll find inscriptions with Thai characters, while on the right there are Chinese characters. Inscribed on the border are the words Singapura and Singapore.
For the reverse field of the 1988 1 oz Singapore Lunar Year of the Dragon Gold Coin, you will find a gorgeous image of a gold dragon. This dragon is designed to look like how dragons appear in ancient Chinese culture.
