Originally struck at the San Francisco Mint, the American Silver Eagles are among the most popular in the world. While now they’re being struck at the West Point Mint there’s nothing like the first coin in a series. JM Bullion is proud to bring you 1986-S 1 oz Proof American Silver Eagles for purchase today.
Coin Highlights:
1986 was the very first year of the American Silver Eagle program. Prior to this, the United States Mint did not have a bullion coin available. The series was popular from the get-go as 6.84 million were minted in total with 1,446,778 being proofs. This number remains the highest total mintage for the proof version in the coin’s history.
1986-S 1 oz Proof American Silver Eagles will all come packaged within a PCGS protective plastic slab. These coins are graded PR69 which is near-perfect and exhibit their full, original mint luster as well. However, you’ll also find a maximum of two minor detracting flaws that range from minuscule hairlines to microscopic contact marks. DCAM proofs are deep-cameo visual keys, which indicate that the coins have strong, frosted matte design elements.
The obverse field of all 1986-S Proof American Silver Eagles depicts Adolph A. Weinman’s iconic Walking Liberty image. This depiction features Liberty donning the American flag with oak branches in her left arm. She’s walking toward a setting sun on the left of the coin.
The modernized heraldic eagle of John Mercanti can be found on the reverse field of 1986-S 1 oz Proof Silver Eagle Coins. This image features a bald eagle with the nation’s shield on its chest. The coin’s identifying marks surround the image.
