The US Mint Sets of the 1970s were highlighted by the inclusion of a coin never seen in US Mint Sets: the US dollar coin. The first US Mint Set issued in 1936 was released one year after the final date in the Peace Dollar Series. There wouldn’t be another circulating US dollar coin until the 1970s and the release of the Eisenhower Dollar. In 1979, an all-new US dollar design emerged in the Mint Set range: the Susan B. Anthony Dollar. Now, 1979 US Mint Sets are available to you for purchase online from JM Bullion.
Coin Set Highlights:
The inclusion of the Susan B. Anthony Dollar in the 1979 US Mint Set marked the first time this coin was issued in the set. This followed the 1973-1978 release of US Mint Sets with the Eisenhower Dollar coin. The Susan B. Anthony Dollar was a much smaller US dollar coin and was initially issued between 1979 and 1981 with a poor reception from the public.
Much of that poor reception revolved around the physical shape of the coin. The Susan B. Anthony coin featured an eleven-sided design rather than a round planchet. It wasn’t until 1999 that the coin was reintroduced with a round planchet and an inner border that was eleven-sided.
These 1979 US Mint Sets arrive with sealed plastic pouches and the potential for an outer shipper. Given the age of the sets, we are not able to guarantee all of the sets will come with the outer shipper. Whether the shipper is available or not, all coins are in good condition. The coins in this set include the Lincoln Penny, Jefferson Nickel, Roosevelt Dime, Washington Quarter, Kennedy Half Dollar, and the Susan B. Anthony Dollar.
