Proof sets first debuted in 1936, as a means to satisfy collectors by giving them an affordable option to purchase US Mint coinage in proof condition. The US Mint initially tried earlier but shut down proof production due to a lack of interest. Proof sets were issued annually from 1936 to 1942, before taking a hiatus. They were issued annually again from 1950 until 1964 before taking a hiatus again, until 1968.

This set contains a Lincoln Cent, Jefferson Nickel, Roosevelt Dime, Washington Quarter, and a Kennedy Half Dollar.
