Following his passing in April 1945, President Franklin D. Roosevelt was honored by the nation with his bust on the US Dime. Franklin’s portrait was created by the 8th Chief Engraver of the United States Mint, John R. Sinnock, and debuted on the dime in 1946 in place of the famed Mercury Dime. Today, Franklin D. Roosevelt’s presidency is often associated with the New Deal, a series of programs and reforms aimed at providing relief, recovery, and reform during the Great Depression. The New Deal included measures such as the creation of the Social Security system, the establishment of the Works Progress Administration (WPA), and the implementation of banking and financial reforms.
All of these Franklin D. Roosevelt Dimes feature the Torch Reverse and come with 24-karat gold plating. The set contains a total of 20 individual coins. However, we cannot guarantee that your set will feature varying date marks or all matching date marks.
In the obverse design of Roosevelt Dimes, you’ll find a portrait of President Roosevelt. He was known for his radio broadcasts, known as “fireside chats,” in which he spoke directly to the American people in a reassuring and informal manner. These broadcasts were a way for him to communicate his policies and reassure the public during times of crisis, such as the Great Depression and World War II.
For the reverse of the Roosevelt Dime, Sinnock created the image of a lit torch flanked by the olive branch and oak branch. The olive branch is a well-known symbol of peace, while the oak branch is a symbol of strength and achievement.
