President Franklin D. Roosevelt served as the 32nd President of the United States from 1933 until his death in 1945, making him the only president to serve four terms. His leadership spanned some of the most challenging periods in American history, including the Great Depression and World War II. He is remembered in the design of the modern US Dime. Right now, 1970s Franklin D. Roosevelt United States Coins with Torch Reverse are available in 10-Coin Sets from JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
Each 1970s Franklin D. Roosevelt United States Dime Set comes with a total of 10 individual coins, each with the Torch reverse design. These coins are all plated with a thin layer of 24-karat gold and feature John R. Sinnock’s impressive designs from 1946. Please note that your coins may have varied dates or matching dates, but all come from the years 1970-1979.
John Ray Sinnock was born on July 8, 1888, in Raton, New Mexico Territory. He was the son of a metalworker and grew up with an early interest in sculpting and engraving. Sinnock studied at the Philadelphia Museum School of Industrial Art (now the University of the Arts) and later apprenticed under sculptor Augustus Lukeman. He gained experience as a sculptor and engraver before joining the United States Mint.
The obverse of each Roosevelt Dime in this set features a left-profile relief of President Franklin D. Roosevelt. This design was created in the aftermath of President Roosevelt’s passing in 1945 to honor the man who served three full terms and won a fourth term as President of the United States.
On the reverse of Roosevelt Dimes, you’ll find a depiction of a large torch at the center. It is flanked on one side by an oak branch and on the other by an olive branch. Sinnock’s original design had a hand clutching the torch with the branches intertwined, but this design was ultimately chosen with all three separate.
