The obverse of the 1945-S Walking Liberty Half Dollar features Liberty stepping forward toward the sunrise, draped in the American flag. Her right arm extends outward, while her left arm holds laurel and oak branches to represent peace and strength. The inscription “LIBERTY” appears to the right, with “IN GOD WE TRUST” placed beneath Liberty’s arm. The date is positioned at the bottom of the design.
The reverse of the 1934 Walking Liberty Half Dollar shows an American eagle perched on a rocky mountain ledge with its wings partially unfurled. A pine sapling grows from the stone below. The inscriptions “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and “HALF DOLLAR” surround the design, while “E PLURIBUS UNUM” appears in small letters near the pine branch.
The 1945-S Walking Liberty Half Dollar was minted during the final year of World War II, with production continuing after Japan’s surrender in August as the nation began transitioning to a peacetime economy.
