Doubled Die refers to a minting error that often occurs when a die used in production receives multiple, slightly misaligned impressions. In the case of this coin, the errors are most common in the words IN GOD WE TRUST and/or LIBERTY, with distinct, separate letters notable under magnification. Overall, the coin has bright, largely untoned surfaces with satin or frosted luster and a lively cartwheel on both sides.

The obverse of the 1943-S Washington Quarter was designed by John Flanagan and features a left-facing portrait of George Washington. The design was inspired by a 1786 sculpture created by French artist Jean-Antoine Houdon, which is widely regarded as an accurate representation of Washington.
