The obverse of the 1941-S Walking Liberty Half Dollar features Liberty walking toward the dawn, draped in the American flag. Her right arm reaches forward, while her left arm holds branches of laurel and oak to represent peace and strength. The word “LIBERTY” appears to the right of the design, and “IN GOD WE TRUST” is inscribed beneath Liberty’s arm. The date is displayed at the bottom of the coin.
The reverse of the 1941-S Walking Liberty Half Dollar depicts a bald eagle perched on a mountain crag with wings partially spread. A young pine tree grows from the rocky surface beneath the eagle. The inscriptions “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and “HALF DOLLAR” frame the scene, while “E PLURIBUS UNUM” is placed in small lettering near the pine branch.
Production of the 1941-S Walking Liberty Half Dollar took place during the latter months of 1941 at the San Francisco Mint, which operated at increased capacity as part of the broader expansion of federal minting operations. The substantial output reflected both accumulated demand and preparations for wartime economic activity.
