The Peace Silver Dollar was the last 90% silver dollar in the United States to see widespread circulation. Designed in 1921 by Anthony de Francisci, this iconic coin was created as an homage to the concepts of peace the American people sought following the horrors of World War I. Today, 1934 Peace Silver Dollar Coins in Mint State condition are available at JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
The Peace Silver Dollar made its debut in December 1921, following the enactment of the Pittman Act, which obligated the U.S. Treasury to replace a large number of silver dollars that had been melted down during World War I. Created by Italian-American artist Anthony de Francisci, the coin was designed to mark the post-war peace and holds the distinction of being the only U.S. coin specifically intended to commemorate the conclusion of a conflict.
All 1934 Peace Silver Dollar Coins available here come in Mint State 61 condition with plastic slabs. An MS61 coin has a noticeably impaired mint luster with clusters of large and small contact marks on the field. Hairlines are also likely to be noticeable and some scuff marks may be present.
The obverse of the 1934 Peace Dollar Coin comes with a depiction of Lady Liberty. In de Francisci’s design, Liberty is shown in left-profile relief and wears a towering crown of light on her head. Her hair is loose and free-flowing in the breeze with inscriptions on this side that include a unique use of Latin-inspired spelling as TRUST in the phrase IN GOD WE TRUST is spelled as TRVST.
On the reverse of 1934 Peace Silver Dollars, you will find an American bald eagle. Reflecting the concept of the coin itself, this eagle is shown at rest on a small rock outcrop with its wings at its side and an olive branch in its talons. The eagle is shown gazing out toward the rising sun on the horizon.
