Anthony de Francisci was an Italian-American sculptor best known for his work on the design of the United States Peace Dollar, a silver coin minted from 1921 to 1935. Each of the 1928 Peace Silver Dollars offered here comes in Mint State 61 condition. Coins with this grade exhibit mint luster that is diminished or otherwise noticeably impaired. The coins may feature clusters of large and small contact marks, as well as noticeable hairlines.
In 1928, Peace Dollars were struck by the Philadelphia Mint and the San Francisco Mint, with the latter coins engraved with an S mint mark. The Philadelphia Mint struck only 360,649 coins, while San Francisco issued 1,632,000 coins.
On the obverse of 1928 Peace Dollars, you will find a left-profile bust of Liberty. This image shows Liberty wearing a crown of light on her head. The design captures the hope for continued peace and prosperity that gripped the nation following the horrors of World War I.
The reverse side of 1928 Peace Silver Dollars comes with a depiction of the American bald eagle. In this design, the eagle is shown perched on a rock ledge with its wings folded at its sides as it looks out toward the horizon. Rays of sunshine emanate across the field from the lower edge.
