Facing forward, Liberty appears surrounded by sun rays and a circle of stars, holding a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left. The U.S. Capitol Building is also visible within the obverse design.
The reverse design of the 1907 Saint-Gaudens Gold Double Eagle showcases a bald eagle in flight. Also created by Saint-Gaudens, the scene depicts the eagle in left-profile relief as it moves across the sky above the sun. The Type III reverse design features the motto IN GOD WE TRUST.
