The Peace Silver Dollar is one of the more notable American silver dollar coins. Its designs were a departure from the tradition of US silver dollars and the coin was, more importantly, the final 90% silver dollar issued into circulation by the United States Mint. Right now, certified 1924 Peace Silver Dollar Coins are available from JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
Each 1924 Peace Silver Dollar Coin available in this listing has a grade of Mint State 63. Coins in this condition exhibit slightly impaired mint luster, numerous small contact marks and a few heavier, scattered marks. Small hairlines are possible and visible without magnification. Detracting scuff marks are also possible.
The Peace Silver Dollar was first proposed in 1920 by Farran Zerbe, a prominent numismatist and coin dealer. He advocated for a coin to commemorate the end of World War I and to symbolize peace. His proposal gained traction, and the U.S. Mint began considering designs for the new coin. The winning design was created by Anthony de Francisci.
On the obverse of 1924 Peace Dollar Coins, you’ll find a left-profile bust of Liberty. Created by de Francisci, this image is based on his own wife and shows Liberty with flowing hair and a towering crown of light on her head.
The reverse side of 1924 Peace Silver Dollars comes with an image of the American bald eagle. In this design, the eagle is perched on a rock ledge with an olive branch in its talons. The eagle has its wings at its side as it gazes off into the distance. Rays of sunlight emerge from the horizon of the design field.
