The Peace Silver Dollar, introduced in 1921 by the US Mint, was the last silver dollar series ever issued by the United States. Its release coincided with the final year of the Morgan Dollar, and the Peace Dollar program lasted until 1935, when silver dollar production ceased for good. Right now, 1923 Peace Silver Dollar Coins are available from JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
Each of the 1923 Peace Silver Dollar Coins is available in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. The series was struck from 1921 to 1928, with additional coins minted in 1934 and 1935. Individual coins are offered in plastic flips, while multiples may be housed in tubes of 20 if available.
The 1922 and 1923 issues of the Peace Silver Dollar represented the largest volumes of the coins produced by the United States Mint. Both years saw the Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco Mints issue the coins. In these two years, Philadelphia alone struck more than 82 million Peace Dollar Coins. In 1923, it produced 30.8 million coins, while Denver contributed 6.811 million coins and San Francisco struck 19.02 million coins.
On the obverse of the 1923 Peace Dollar Coin, Anthony de Francisci’s design of Lady Liberty is displayed in left-profile relief. Her radiant crown of light symbolizes freedom and enlightenment, with the national motto and the year of issue surrounding her image.
The reverse of 1923 Peace Silver Dollar features a peaceful bald eagle, resting on an olive branch. Designed by de Francisci, this image reflects the nation’s hope for peace following the devastation of World War I. Rays of light rise from the edge of the coin, adding to the sense of tranquility in the design.
