In 1922, the US Mint issued commemorative gold dollars and silver half dollars honoring the centennial of President Ulysses S. Grant’s birth. In a bid to boost sales, the Grant Commission requested the US Mint strike 5,000 of the gold dollars with a special incuse star mark on the obverse. In the end, 5,016 coins with the star were struck. From an already limited issue, certified specimens in Mint State condition are scarce. This 1922 Grant Gold Dollar with an MS67 certification is one of only 37 similarly graded coins, with only 13 specimens graded higher. Today, the 1922 Grant Gold Dollars With Star is available in MS67+ condition from JM Bullion.
