Silver dollar coining in the United States has a history filled with starts and stops. The most famous coin design to come from the American silver dollar series is the Morgan Silver Dollar. Introduced in 1878, it has a rich history that includes a 17-year hiatus before it was struck one final time. That last issue came in 1921. Right now, 1921 Morgan Silver Dollar Coins are available at JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
Each 1921 Morgan Silver Dollar Coin offered here comes in Brilliant Uncirculated condition and arrives in a protective plastic flip. The 1921 Morgan Dollar is the culmination of a rich history for the Morgan Dollar. Introduced in 1878 at the peak of the Wild West in America, the Morgan Dollar was produced annually for 27 years, with a final strike in 1921.
The 1921 release of Morgan Silver Dollars marked a return for the American silver dollar after the original Morgan Dollar run ended in 1904. Following World War I, the United States melted down millions of silver dollars to provide silver bullion to European allies. Some of that silver was also used to restart silver dollar production in the United States, with the Morgan Dollar revived for the 1921 restart while a new design was created for the denomination.
Obverse design elements on 1921 Morgan Dollar Coins include the left-profile bust of Liberty. She is shown here with a Phrygian cap on her head, as well as a coronet crown and a laurel wreath. The field includes a date mark and 13 stars.
Reverse visuals on the 1921 Morgan Silver Dollar depict the heraldic eagle. This design shows a front-facing bald eagle with the arrows of war and olive branch of peace. George T. Morgan created both the obverse and reverse visuals in 1878 as a new Assistant Engraver at the US Mint. Astonishingly, in 1921 he was serving as the 7th Chief Engraver of the United States Mint and created new dies with his original artwork for the restart of the program.
