The Morgan Silver Dollar Coin is a unique piece in American coining history. It was the first US silver dollar issued after the end of the free-coining era in the United States that enabled Americans to turn in raw silver to the US Mint for coining. The Morgan Silver Dollar is also one of the few circulation denominations issued for a long period, suspended, and returned to production, albeit temporarily. Today, 1921 Morgan Silver Dollar Coins are available to you online from JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
Morgan Silver Dollar Coins were introduced by the United States Mint in 1878. The coin design replaced the long-running Seated Liberty Silver Dollar coin that had been suspended in 1873. The suspension of the Seated Liberty Silver Dollar coincided with legislation that ended the free coining of silver for Americans. When silver dollars returned to production, the Morgan Dollar design debuted.
All of the 1921 Morgan Silver Dollar Coins in this product listing are available to you in Mint State 64 condition. Coins in this condition have at least average luster and strike for the date. You can expect to see several small contact marks clustered in small groups with one or two heavier marks present. Lady Liberty is depicted in left-profile relief on the obverse side of 1921 Morgan Silver Dollar Coins. This bust of Lady Liberty was created by US Mint Assistant Engraver George T. Morgan in 1878. This was one of his first contributions after joining the US Mint following his move from England to the United States. Anna Willes Williams is said to have been the woman who sat through several design sessions with Mr. Morgan to serve as inspiration for the Liberty bust.
Morgan’s version of the American heraldic eagle features on the reverse face of 1921 Morgan Silver Dollar Coins. The US heraldic eagle features an American bald eagle with the arrows of war and olive branch of peace in its talons. This design is one of the few in American coining history to lack the US heraldic shield in the design.
