In 1921, the United States Mint resumed coining silver dollars after a long hiatus. The last silver dollar struck in the United States was the 1904 Morgan Silver Dollar. Though the silver dollar remained in circulation, no new specimens were produced. After World War I, large volumes of existing silver dollars were collected and melted down. In 1921, silver dollars returned with the 1878 Morgan Dollar design issued for most of the year. Today, 1921 Morgan Silver Dollar Coins in certified condition are available to you online from JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
The Pittman Act of 1918 authorized the resumption of silver dollar coining in the United States. Though the act was passed in 1918, silver dollar coining did not resume until 1921. The US Mint had to remake the dies from the Morgan Dollar for use in the coining of 1921 silver dollars. As it happens, George T. Morgan was serving as the Chief Engraver of the United States Mint and able to see his 1878 design return to production more than 40 years after it was first struck on American coins.
All of these 1921 Morgan Silver Dollar Coins are available to you in Mint State 64 condition. Coins in this condition have average mint luster, at least, and will feature flaws such as groups of small contact marks, one or two heavier contact marks, and one or two patches of small hairlines that are visible without the aid of magnification. Please note that 1921 Morgan Dollars could have no mint mark or feature S or D mint marks. We cannot guarantee which version you receive nor can we guarantee whether it was graded by the PCGS or NGC. All coins are chosen at random after your payment clears.
On the obverse of 1921 Morgan Silver Dollars is a portrait of Lady Liberty. This effigy of Liberty was created in 1878 by George T. Morgan and captures her figure in left-profile relief with a coronet crown and laurel wreath on her head.
The reverse side of the 1921 Morgan Silver Dollar Coin comes with an image of the heraldic eagle of the United States. Also designed by Morgan, this visual shows the bald eagle in front-facing relief with its wings spread and its talons clutching the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace.
