The previous design, the Seated Liberty Dollar, was in production from the 1830s until 1873. With the introduction of the Morgan Silver Dollar, the United States Mint resumed coining silver dollars annually through 1904 before again halting production of new silver dollars. In 1921, the coins returned with the Morgan Dollar design used one final time.
