By midyear, both mints introduced coins with the national motto included on the reverse, with Denver eventually striking more than 836,000 coins with the motto.
The obverse of the 1908-D $10 Indian Eagle Coin comes with a left-profile bust of Lady Liberty. This design from Augustus Saint-Gaudens depicts Lady Liberty in left-profile relief wearing a feathered headdress. It is one of the first appearances of indigenous symbolism on American currency.
On the reverse of 1908-D Pre-33 Indian Gold Eagles, you will find an American bald eagle. Also designed by Saint-Gaudens, the eagle is shown in left-profile relief as it sits perched on a sheaf of arrows wrapped by an olive branch. This side showcases the Type II changes, with the motto IN GOD WE TRUST added to the field in front of the eagle’s chest.
