Today, 1908 $5 Indian Gold Half Eagle Coins are available from JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
The final design used on the $5 Half Eagle denomination from the United States Mint debuted in 1908. Created by Bela Lyon Pratt, the design was groundbreaking in more ways than one. First and foremost, it marked the first image of an indigenous figure on American coinage. Secondly, it was the first-ever incuse struck design in US Mint history.
All 1908 $5 Indian Gold Half Eagle Coins offered here are AU55 specimens. The AU range on the Sheldon Numeric Scale runs from 50 to 58, with the higher rated coins often confused for Uncirculated specimens. AU55 coins have only trace signs of fraction on the highest relief points and medium or near-full luster.
On the obverse of 1908 $5 Indian Half Eagle Coins is a depiction of an indigenous figure. Pratt’s portrait shows the figure in left-profile relief with a feathered headdress on. The designs on each side are incuse struck, meaning the visuals are struck into the surface of the coin and not engraved in 3D relief on the surface.
The reverse side of the 1908 Indian Gold Half Eagle comes with a depiction of the American bald eagle. Pratt’s reverse design features an eagle at rest with its wings at its side in left-profile relief. The eagle is perched on a sheaf of arrows that is wrapped in an olive branch of peace.
