The Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle is arguably one of the most popular coins in American history. Introduced in 1907, the coins featured obverse and reverse designs from Augustus Saint-Gaudens. Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ depiction of Liberty on the obverse of these coins is one of the longest-lived and most popular images in American coining history. It was used on the $20 Gold Double Eagle until 1933, but has since featured on private-mint bullion for decades and the American Gold Eagle bullion coin at the US Mint since 1986.
All of these 1908 Pre-33 $20 Saint-Gaudens Gold Double Eagles are available in MS65 condition. Coins with this grade have an attractive remaining mint luster with only a few small, scattered contact marks or two larger marks. One or two small patches of hairlines are also possible, as well as light scuff marks.
On the obverse of 1908 Pre-33 Saint-Gaudens Gold Double Eagles, you will find the front-facing portrait of Liberty. Her full-length figure is shown walking toward you with a torch in one hand and an olive branch in the other.
