1907 marked a year of transition for the $20 Gold Double Eagle from the United States Mint. Since this denomination’s introduction in 1850, James B. Longacre’s Liberty Head design had graced the coins. Though 1907 would see the introduction of the second and final design, Saint-Gaudens’ Liberty, the 1907 release cycle included Liberty Gold Double Eagles early in the year. Right now, 1907-D Pre-33 $20 Liberty Gold Double Eagle Coins are available in certified condition from JM Bullion.

Each 1907-D Pre-33 $20 Liberty Gold Double Eagle Coin listed here is in Mint State 64 condition. Coins with this grade exhibit an above-average luster with light, scattered marks and hairlines. Some of the contact marks may appear in the primary focal fields, while the hairlines may present as individual, scattered flaws or as a small patch.
The 1907 issue of Liberty Gold Double Eagles was the final release of this design series. The issue included coins struck by the Philadelphia Mint, the Denver Mint, and the San Francisco Mint. While Philadelphia and San Francisco had issued the coins for several decades at this point, the 1907-D Liberty Double Eagle was only the second in this design series from the Denver Mint.
Lady Liberty is on the obverse of the 1907-D $20 Liberty Double Eagle Coins. This effigy from James B. Longacre offers a left-profile relief of Liberty with a coronet crown on her head. The design elements on this side include a ring of 13 stars and a date mark of 1907 at the bottom.
The American bald eagle is featured on the reverse of 1907-D Pre-33 Liberty Gold Double Eagles. The primary designs include the bald eagle in front-facing relief with the US national shield, the arrows of war, and the olive branch of peace. As a Type III specimen, the field includes the denomination as TWENTY DOLLARS and also features the national motto within a ring of 13 stars over the eagle’s head (a detail added in 1866 with the Type II debut).
