The reverse side of the 1903 $20 Liberty Double Eagle Coin showcases a heraldic eagle design also by James B. Longacre. This image is a modified version of the Great Seal of the United States. The eagle is looking to the left with a shield displayed on its chest. In its talons, it’s holding a bundle of arrows, an olive branch, and a double ribbon.
Each 1903 $20 Liberty Gold Double Eagle Coin will arrive in a protective plastic slab from the PCGS. Each coin has been graded as MS64 by the Professional Coin Grading Service. These coins have an average mint luster with the possibility of several small contact marks, one or two moderate marks, and one or two small patches of hairlines.
Unlike the quarter eagle, half eagle, and eagle, the double eagle wasn’t struck until 1849. Regular issues started being produced the next year featuring the Liberty head design from James B. Longacre. The Liberty head design was used from 1850 to 1907. The coin was still produced and in circulation until 1933 but with a new design from Augustus Saint-Gaudens.
