Throughout the program’s history, the New Orleans Mint was one of the most consistent producers of Morgan Dollars, missing out on just two dates in the history of the series. The New Orleans Mint had a rich history in producing Morgan Silver Dollars. The series from annually from 1878 to 1904, and after a 17-year hiatus in fresh silver dollar coining, the Morgan Dollar returned in 1921 for one year. The New Orleans Mint issued the coins each year from 1879 to 1904. The mint reopened after the US Civil War and Reconstruction Eras in 1879 and closed in 1909, meaning it missed the 1878 debut of the Morgan Dollar and the 1921 final issue.

Reverse visuals on 1902-O Morgan Silver Dollars come with an image of the heraldic eagle. This design shows the American bald eagle in front-facing relief with its wings spread as its talons clutch the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace.
