Numerous small contact marks are possible, along with a few scattered, heavier marks. Small hairlines will be visible without the aid of magnification.
The obverse of the 1901-S Pre-33 Liberty Gold Eagle features Christian Gobrecht’s portrait of Liberty wearing a coronet inscribed with LIBERTY. Introduced in 1838, this design became a standard for US gold coins. Liberty faces left in a calm profile, with her hair arranged neatly beneath the coronet. Thirteen stars surround the portrait to represent the original colonies.
The reverse of the 1901-S $10 Liberty Eagle presents a heraldic eagle holding arrows and an olive branch, with a shield across its chest. The inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and IN GOD WE TRUST appear above, with TEN D below. The motto was added to the design in 1866 after the Civil War.
