The US Mint’s $10 gold piece, known as the Liberty Head Eagle Coin, boasts the distinction of being the longest-running design in the US Eagle series. Created by Christian Gobrecht, the 3rd Chief Engraver of the United States Mint, in 1838, this design adorned the $10, $5, and $2.50 Eagle denominations. The $10 Liberty Eagle maintained its status for an impressive 69 years, from 1838 to 1907. Now, 1901-S $10 Liberty Gold Eagle Coins are available at JM Bullion in certified condition.
Coin Highlights:
The obverse of the 1901-S $10 Liberty Eagle Coin comes with a portrait of Lady Liberty created by Christian Gobrecht. This design captures Liberty in left-profile relief with a coronet crown on her head. The design field includes a ring of 13 stars around the portrait and a date mark at the bottom of the design element.
On the reverse of 1901-S Liberty Gold Eagles, you will find the heraldic eagle of the United States. Also designed by Gobrecht, it shows a front-facing bald eagle supporting the US national shield. The eagle also clutches the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace. These Type II coins include a banner above the eagle with the national motto. The S mint mark is also found on this side.
In 1901, the United States Mint struck the $10 Liberty Gold Eagle at three different branch mints. These include coins issued by the Philadelphia Mint, the New Orleans Mint (O mint mark), and the San Francisco Mint (S mint mark). San Francisco lead the way, producing more than 2.8 million coins, while Philadelphia issued more than 1.7 million coins and New Orleans struck just over 72,000 coins.
These 1901-S $10 Liberty Gold Eagle Coins are available in Mint State 64 condition with plastic slabs for delivery. Mint State 64 coins showcase average mint luster with a few light, scattered contact marks that may be in the primary focal fields. It is also possible for a few scattered hairlines to be visible or a small patch of hairlines.
