The New Orleans Mint was one of the major producers of Morgan Silver Dollars throughout the history of the silver dollar series. Morgan Silver Dollars were produced by the US Mint from 1878 to 1904 and again in 1921. During this timeframe, the New Orleans Mint only missed two production dates. Today, 1901-O Morgan Silver Dollar Coins are available to you online in certified condition at JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
Opened in 1838, the New Orleans Mint was one of three branch mints of the US Mint built in the late 1830s to expand the nation’s coining capacity. The New Orleans Mint was operational from 1838 until 1861, and then closed during the Civil War. The mint remained close throughout the Reconstruction Era, eventually reopening in 1879.
All of the 1901-O Morgan Silver Dollar Coins available here come in MS64 condition. A coin with this grade has average mint luster for its age with several small contact marks grouped together and one or two moderate-to-heavy marks as well. One or two small patches of hairlines are also possible.
On obverse of the 1901-O Morgan Dollar Coin, you will find a left-profile bust of Liberty. This depiction of Liberty is a classic 19th-century visual that shows her head in left-profile relief with the coronet crown and laurel wreath in her hair, as well as a Phrygian cap on the back of her head.
The reverse side of 1901-Morgan Silver Dollars comes with an image of the heraldic eagle of the United States. This design shows the bald eagle in front-facing relief as it spreads its wings and clutches the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace in its talons. The design does not include a US national shield.
