The San Francisco Mint issued the coins with its S mint mark on the reverse and struck a total of 2,459,500 coins. The Philadelphia Mint issued coins without a mint mark, as is customary for the primary branch mint, with a total of 1,874,460 coins struck.

On average, these coins show medium to near-full luster with extremely light or trace friction on the highest relief points.
On the obverse of 1900-S $20 Liberty Double Eagle Coins is a portrait of Lady Liberty. This design shows the head of Liberty in left-profile relief with a coronet crown on her head. The field also includes a ring of 13 stars with the date mark of 1900 at the bottom of the field.
The reverse side of 1900-S Pre-33 Liberty Gold Double Eagles comes with the Great Seal of the United States. The front-facing bald eagle supports the US national shield while it clutches the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace. Type III reverse designs in this series include the added IN GOD WE TRUST in the ring of 13 stars above the eagle (introduced in 1866) and the denomination’s expanded engraving of TWENTY DOLLARS.
