The Fairmont Collection represents a cache of Pre-1933 $5 US Half Eagle, $10 US Eagle, and $20 Double Eagle Gold Coins that surfaced on the numismatic scene in the late 2010s. Originally transferred overseas through international trade, the coins eventually found their way back into the United States, captivating collectors with their rich past and impressive preservation. Today, 1900-P $20 Liberty Gold Double Eagle Coins from the dawn of the 20th century are available at JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
The $20 Liberty Gold Double Eagle, designed by James B. Longacre, was first issued in 1849 following the California Gold Rush when large quantities of gold flooded the market. The coin’s production was dramatically affected by significant historical events, including the Civil War when hoarding led to their disappearance from circulation. The Gold Reserve Act of 1934 effectively ended the circulation of gold coins in America. These 1900-P Liberty Double Eagles were produced by the Philadelphia Mint with 1.87 million coins originally issued, in addition to 2.459 million coins from the San Francisco Mint.
All 1900-P $20 Liberty Gold Double Eagle Coins are available in Mint State 63 condition in this listing. Coins with this grade have slightly impaired mint luster with numerous small contact marks. A few scattered heavier marks are possible, as well as small hairlines that may be visible without magnification.
On the obverse of 1900-P Liberty Gold Double Eagles, you will find a left-profile bust of Lady Liberty. Her bust is shown with a coronet crown on her head and a ring of 13 stars arching above her head. The date mark is found at the bottom of the field.
The reverse side of 1900-P $20 Double Eagle Coins showcases the Type III reverse design in this series. Introduced in 1877, the Type III reverse includes the Type II (1866) addition of the national motto above the head of the eagle and features a new engraving for the face value as TWENTY DOLLARS, replacing the previously used TWENTY D. The design includes a bald eagle with the US national shield, the arrows of war, and the olive branch of peace.
