The reverse of the 1899 Pre-33 $5 Liberty Half Eagle Coins depicts a heraldic eagle with a shield on its chest. The eagle clutches arrows and an olive branch, while UNITED STATES OF AMERICA is inscribed above and FIVE D appears below. IN GOD WE TRUST was added above the eagle in 1866.
