In 1838, Christian Gobrecht, the 3rd Chief Engraver of the United States Mint, created the design for the Liberty Head Eagle Coin. This $10 gold piece would go on to become the longest-running design in the US Eagle denomination. While the visual graced $10, $5, and $2.50 Eagles, the $10 Liberty Eagle enjoyed the longest production run, from 1838 to 1907. Now, 1899 $10 Liberty Gold Eagle Coins are available from JM Bullion in certified condition.

The obverse of the 1899 $10 Liberty Eagle Coin comes with a portrait of Lady Liberty. Designed in 1838 by Gobrecht, this visual shows the head of Liberty in left-profile relief with a coronet crown on her head. This is surrounded by a ring of 13 stars and comes with a date mark at the bottom of the field.
On the reverse side of 1899 Liberty Gold Eagle Coins, the mint features another design from Gobrecht. This image is known as the heraldic eagle and depicts a front-facing bald eagle supporting the US national shield. The eagle also clutches the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace in its talons. Type II coins such as these have the added banner above the eagle with the national motto.
In 1899, the United States Mint struck $10 Liberty Gold Eagles with some of the highest volumes of the decade. The Philadelphia Mint produced the highest number at 1.262 million coins, while the San Francisco Mint struck 841,000 coins, doubling its output from one year prior. The New Orleans Mint contributed an additional 37,047 coins.
These 1899 $10 Liberty Gold Eagle Coins come in Mint State 63 condition with protective plastic slabs. Coins with this grade showcase slightly impaired mint luster, scattered small contact marks, and a few heavy marks. These marks may be present in the primary focal areas. It is also possible for hairlines to present as either scattered, individual flaws or small patches.
