While thousands of these coins were used on a daily basis, thousands more were used in international trade between the United States and other nations. The 1899-O Liberty Gold Eagle is an exceptional piece. Its age, combined with its extremely low original mintage, make it the perfect piece for any collector. In fact, the mintage of 37,047 coins at New Orleans in 1899 makes this Liberty Gold Eagle the rarest date mark from the New Orleans Mint after 1883.
This 1899-O $10 Liberty Gold Eagle Coin is available with an AU58 condition. Generally speaking, coins at this level have only trace signs of friction on the highest relief points with medium or near-full mint luster. This particular coin has lustrous, satin visuals and softly-frosted surfaces with a warm, medium-gold apricot color.
On the obverse of the 1899-O Liberty Gold Eagle is the image of Lady Liberty. Designed in 1838 by Christian Gobrecht, this left-profile effigy shows Liberty wearing a coronet crown on her head with a ring of 13 stars around the bust.
The reverse side of 1899-O $10 Liberty Eagle Coins comes with the heraldic eagle. This design features the front-facing eagle with the US national shield, the arrows of war, the olive branch of peace, and a banner with the national motto engraved on it.
