Coin Highlights:
The obverse side of 1897 Morgan Silver Dollar showcases Liberty in a left-profile relief. Designed in 1878, Liberty is shown wearing a Phrygian cap adorned with a coronet crown and laurel wreath, accompanied by 13 stars representing the original American Colonies.
On the reverse of 1897 Morgan Dollar Coins, the heraldic eagle is featured in front-facing relief. This design, also created by George T. Morgan, depicts a bald eagle with outstretched wings, holding the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace in its talons.
In 1897, the US Mint once again produced Morgan Dollars at three of its branch mints: Philadelphia, New Orleans, and San Francisco. Unlike previous years, the Philadelphia Mint issued the lowest volume at 2.882 million coins, while New Orleans issued 4.004 million coins and San Francisco produced the greatest volume at 5.825 million coins.
These 1897 Morgan Silver Dollar Coins are offered in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. Individual coins ship in protective flips, while bulk orders of 20 coins come in acrylic tubes if tubes are available. The coin takes its name from George T. Morgan, its designer, who served as Assistant Engraver at the time of its debut in 1878 and later became the 7th Chief Engraver of the U.S. Mint.
