Over a century and a half after its debut, the Morgan Silver Dollar is still one of the most cherished US coins. Originally struck by the United States Mint from 1878 to 1904 and again in 1921, the coin’s timeless design featuring Lady Liberty and its significance in American numismatics have made it a favorite among collectors of silver dollars. Today, 1896 Morgan Silver Dollar Coins are available at JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
In 1896, the Philadelphia Mint produced the greatest volume of Morgan Dollars from any single branch mint of the US Mint. In fact, with 9,976,000 coins struck, the Philadelphia Mint issued more Morgan Dollars than the other two branch mints combined. San Francisco struck 5 million coins and New Orleans issued an additional 4.9 million coins, giving Philadelphia a slight edge overall.
All 1986 Morgan Silver Dollar Coins available here come in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. Each coin is carefully packaged in a protective plastic flip, with tubes available for orders of 20 or more coins.
The obverse of the 1896 Morgan Dollar features a left-profile portrait of Lady Liberty, designed by George T. Morgan. She wears a Phrygian cap, adorned with a laurel wreath and coronet crown, representing freedom and victory.
On the reverse side of the 1896 Morgan Silver Dollar, the heraldic eagle designed by Morgan is depicted. Unlike most American coin designs, this eagle does not carry a national shield but instead holds the traditional arrows of war and an olive branch of peace.
